Studying the 7 Creative Strategies
In this semester for my graphic design certificate, my class and I have been studying the 7 creative strategies that can be used in everyday designing or when working with a client.
Each of these strategies plays a different role and can help send the unique message that myself or my client is trying to communicate to the audience.
These 7 creative strategies are the following: Combination, Juxtaposition, Isolation, Metaphor/Simile, Change of Context or Environment, Physical Shape Similarity, and Material Change, Swap, or Focus.
The following images further explain how these strategies come to play.
Object Used: Scissors
Combination
"Beware the Sharp Bite"
Using an image of a pair of scissors and combining it to the face of a crocodile, it connects the two objects by using one similar thing: the bite.
Juxtaposition
"Handle With Care"
In contrast to the sharp scissor blades, a pair of feathers shows that care must be used when using a pair of these shears.
Isolation
"Choose Your Battles Carefully"
The pair of scissors being surrounded by a circle of rocks refers to the game "Rock, Paper, Scissors." Rocks always beat scissors.
Metaphor/Simile
"Watch Your Words"
The scissor blades are replaced with a pair of chattering teeth to represent how words can cut just as much as a pair of sharp scissors can.
Change of Context or Environment
"Focus Not on the Bad"
Using the pair of scissors and changing the three letters of the word "dissolution" to red, it shows how we should look for the good instead of keeping our eyes on the bad that's around us.
Physical Shape Similarity
"Don't Skip Leg Day"
Using this image of legs of an exerciser and replacing them with scissors give a nod to one of the leg exercise workouts: the scissors.
Material Swap, Change, or Focus
"Keep Your Hearing Sharp"
Replacing the rabbit's ears with the scissor blades connects to sharp hearing. It's good to keep a lookout of your surroundings with your ears and not just your eyes.
